Am 20. März 2021 fand eine 8-stündige Online-Konferenz zu Ehren der Fédération française des échecs (FFE) statt, die tags zuvor ihr 100-jähriges Gründungsjubiläum gefeiert hatte. Die überarbeiteten Vorträge der renommierten Schachhistoriker aus Spanien, Frankreich, England, Belgien, Polen, Tschechien und Deutschland liegen nun in Buchform vor. In edles Leinen gebunden wird auf 304 großzügig bebilderten Seiten die reiche Geschichte des europäischen und besonders des französischen Schachs vom ausgehenden 15. bis zur Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts beleuchtet. Für die Redaktion zeichnen mit Herbert Bastian (Saarbrücken), Prof. Dr. Frank Hoffmeister (Brüssel) und Jean-Olivier Leconte (Paris) erfahrene Schachhistoriker verantwortlich.
Sieben der zwölf Vorträge sind in englischer, fünf in französischer Sprache verfasst (englischsprachige Beiträge enthalten eine Zusammenfassung auf Französisch und umgekehrt). Ein Teil der Betrachtungen befasst sich mit alten Manuskripten (MS Paris/DeLucia, Göttinger Handschrift, MS Allemand) sowie mit dem 1990 wiederentdeckten Werk von Chapais. Andere Beiträge fokussieren sich auf das Wirken prägender Persönlichkeiten wie Philidor, Deschapelles, Mouret, Kieseritzky, Harrwitz, Petroff, Rosenthal, Gromer und Aljechin. Zwei weitere befassen sich mit der Bildung der FFE und ihren ersten 25 Jahren. Die Artikel sind auf dem neuesten Stand und vermitteln zahlreiche neue Erkenntnisse. Das wissenschaftliche Kriterien erfüllende Werk bietet somit einen fundierten Einstieg in die neuere Schachgeschichte und liefert zahlreiche Anknüpfungspunkte für schachhistorisch Interessierte. Herausgegeben wird es vom Exzelsior Verlag Berlin, der jüngst mit der Lasker-Trilogie sein hohes Niveau unter Beweis gestellt hat.
France's contribution to the development of chess in Europe - the book on the conference
On 20 March 2021, an 8-hour online conference was held in honour of the Fédération française des échecs (FFE), which had celebrated its 100th founding anniversary the day before. The revised lectures of the renowned chess historians from Spain, France, England, Belgium, Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany are now available in book form. Bound in fine linen, 304 generously illustrated pages illuminate the rich history of European and especially French chess from the end of the 15th to the middle of the 20th century. Herbert Bastian (Saarbrücken), Prof. Dr. Frank Hoffmeister (Brussels) and Jean-Olivier Leconte (Paris), experienced chess historians, are responsible for the editing.
Seven of the twelve lectures are written in English, five in French (English-language contributions contain a summary in French and vice versa). Some of the reflections deal with old manuscripts (MS Paris/DeLucia, Göttingen manuscript, MS Allemand) as well as with Chapais' work rediscovered in 1990. Other contributions focus on the work of formative personalities such as Philidor, Deschapelles, Mouret, Kieseritzky, Harrwitz, Petroff, Rosenthal, Gromer and Alekhine. Two others deal with the formation of the FFE and its first 25 years. The articles are up to date and provide numerous new insights. The work, which fulfils scientific criteria, thus offers a well-founded introduction to recent chess history and provides numerous points of reference for those interested in chess history. It is published by Exzelsior Verlag Berlin, which recently proved its high standard with the Lasker trilogy.
La contribution de la France au développement des échecs en Europe - le livre de la conférence
Le 20 mars 2021, une conférence en ligne de 8 heures a été organisée en l'honneur de la Fédération française des échecs (FFE), qui avait fêté le jour précédent le centenaire de sa fondation. Les exposés remaniés des historiens des échecs renommés d'Espagne, de France, d'Angleterre, de Belgique, de Pologne, de République tchèque et d'Allemagne sont désormais disponibles sous forme de livre. Relié dans une toile précieuse, ce livre de 304 pages généreusement illustrées met en lumière la riche histoire des échecs européens, et en particulier français, de la fin du xve siècle au milieu du xxe siècle. La rédaction est assurée par des historiens des échecs expérimentés, Herbert Bastian (Sarrebruck), le professeur Frank Hoffmeister (Bruxelles) et Jean-Olivier Leconte (Paris).
Sept des douze conférences sont rédigées en anglais, cinq en français (les contributions en anglais contiennent un résumé en français et inversement). Une partie des réflexions porte sur des manuscrits anciens (MS Paris/DeLucia, Göttinger Handschrift, MS Allemand) ainsi que sur l'œuvre de Chapais redécouverte en 1990. D'autres contributions se focalisent sur l'action de personnalités marquantes comme Philidor, Deschapelles, Mouret, Kieseritzky, Harrwitz, Petroff, Rosenthal, Gromer et Alekhine. Deux autres traitent de la formation de la FFE et de ses 25 premières années. Les articles sont à jour et apportent de nombreuses nouvelles connaissances. L'ouvrage, qui remplit des critères scientifiques, offre ainsi une introduction fondée à l'histoire récente des échecs et fournit de nombreux points de repère aux personnes intéressées par l'histoire des échecs. Il est publié par les éditions Exzelsior à Berlin, qui ont récemment prouvé leur haut niveau avec la trilogie Lasker.
